GENERATIVE AI
Programs, Projects & Resources
This page serves as a hub for all Tech Center projects and resources focusing on Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Tech Center’s work in artificial intelligence is organized as an interconnected ecosystem of programs, projects, and resources. Together, these efforts support the exploration, design, and implementation of AI in language learning across Flagship contexts and audiences.
The Tech Center is actively exploring the integration of AI to enhance and support its integration across Flagship programs. Our goal is to advance the principled integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) into language education, with a focus on supporting the development of professional-level proficiency and specific Language Flagship experiences.
Our work is informed by the principled integration of AI, which we define as AI use that is:
Pedagogically aligned (AI is used in pursuit of sound pedagogical goals and outcomes),
Theoretically grounded (AI use is founded on relevant research, such as research grounded on SLA, CALL, and the learning sciences),
Ethically responsible (AI integration is attentive to privacy, bias, academic integrity, equitable access, etc.), and
Context-sensitive (AI integration responds to the needs of Flagship students, teachers, and programs).
PROGRAMS
Flagship Forward Resources
Flagship Forward is a Tech Center program that explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can support instruction aimed at developing professional-level language proficiency in Language Flagship programs.

Hackathon
Hack the Language Flagship is an event optimized for discovery and creativity where Language Flagship students can propose technology-based solutions (“hacks”) that help drive innovation in language learning.
Tutoring Summit
Reimagining Tutoring with AI was a three-part series that provided a forum for Flagship tutoring programs to showcase, evaluate, and expand upon AI-based tools and strategies developed through recent collaborations to enhance the Flagship tutoring experience.
Design Studio
The 2026 Design Studio fosters collaborative ideation and real-time prototyping. Participants will develop resources to support a core PBLL experience. The product of the core PBLL experience will incorporate AI products designed by learners for a specific discipline, context, and purpose.
Projects
AI Roadmap for Flagship Programs
The resulting Roadmap will outline guiding principles, instructional use cases, ethical considerations, and recommended tools for supporting domain-specific language development in online, hybrid, and in-person learning contexts.
Resources
Resources for Tutoring
These collection of modules provides a broad overview of aspects of language acquisition relevant to tutoring situations. Four modules in this collection focus on the use of Generative AI in tutoring programs.
Guidebook for Prompting
Developed by Tech Center intern Ashley Nichols, this introductory guide to ChatGPT for language educators covers core functions, effective prompting, and practical applications to support language learning.
