Information and Misinformation in Post-Soviet Media

The Russian Flagship is pleased to announce an interactive event for students of Russian on (dis)information in Russian-language media. 

The event will begin with a presentation to help you to develop your critical media literacy skills in Russian, followed by small-group discussions of rhetorical strategies used in a text that you’ll receive in advance. 

This special event is for students of Russian in second-year Russian courses or above (or at the Intermediate Mid level of proficiency in Russian or higher). The event is only open to students at colleges and universities with a Russian Flagship program.

About the Speaker: Svitlana Malykhina

Dr Svitlana Malykhina is Lecturer in Russian and Coordinator of Russian Language program at the World Languages and Literatures at Boston University. Her research and teaching areas include Russian, Ukrainian, cross-cultural communication, cultural history, media discourse analysis and translation theories.  Selected publications: Renaissance of Classical Allusions in Contemporary Russian Media, Lexington Books, 2014; Skaz: Masters of Russian Storytelling. The dual-language anthology (Translit Publishing, 2015); Change and Continuity in the Urban Semiosphere of Post-Soviet Kharkiv. In East/West: Journal of Ukrainian Studies, Volume VII, No. 1, 2020.
