Exploring Q-Pop

A series of experiences to learn more about the Kazakh music phenomenon

The Russian Flagship is pleased to announce an interactive series of events for students of Russian on q-pop (pop music in Kazakhstan).

Events include a Q&A session with the director of a documentary on q-pop and two workshops to dive deeper into the history and background of q-pop and Kazakhstan itself.

The event is only open to students at colleges and universities with a Russian Flagship program.

About the Documentary: Men sen emes (“Петь свои песни“)

This 2019 documentary follows the Kazakh pop group “Ninety One.” It discusses the impact of their music, including some of the controversy surrounding their performances.
