STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
Build professional skills in a low stress environment
The Student Advisory Council (SAC) offers Flagship students and alumni an excellent opportunity to collaborate across Flagship programs. SAC members fulfill leadership roles in various interests groups that help steer Tech Center activity and ground projects in Flagship student needs. As part of the SAC, Flagship students give us input on current projects and ideas for new ones. Working closely with Tech Center staff, SAC members also have academic opportunities. For example, members of the ‘20-’21 Council gave conference presentations, contributed to the design of new technologies, and gained experience in networking, problem solving and multidisciplinary teamwork.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Overview
The Student Advisory Council (SAC) was formed after the 2018 Flagship Student Hackathon, in order to provide ongoing student input and direction to the Tech Center. Students and alumni can participate in the SAC in a number of ways: by attending general All-SAC meetings, by participating in a Special Interest Group (SIG), and/or by serving on the Executive Committee.
SAC Leadership
Gain leadership experience in the Student Advisory Council’s Executive Committee. The Executive Committee acts as a liaison between Flagship students, Flagship faculty/admin, and the Tech Center, in order to create a better learning environment within the Flagship programs. They also keep the Flagship Programs up to date on the Tech Center projects.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
AI for Language Learning SIG
Members of the AI for Language Learning SIG will explore recent developments in AI, and how it can be used to support language learning experiences, as well as its limitations, and strategies for recognizing and addressing errors in content and grammar.
Culture SIG
Members of the Culture SIG have previously piloted the scenarios in the Culture APP and compared the situations described with their own experiences during study abroad. They are currently seeking members who want to find ways to help Flagship students develop intercultural awareness while preparing for study abroad and capstone.
Tutoring SIG
Members of the Tutoring SIG are exploring ways for technology to support tutoring practices, including pathways for tutor networking and materials sharing, resources to assist active learners, including learner self-assessment and progress tracking, as well as other technology-based supports for tutoring.
