Sociopragmatic competence in the L2 Arabic curriculum is an underrepresented component. In this presentation, Dr. Azaz will talk about the development of sociopragmatic competence in Arabic dialects through the lens of communicative speech acts. He will also discuss the innovative features of a project including how to present pragmalinguistic features in annotated video clips using cutting-edge technology and the role of awareness-raising activities and discourse tasks in assessing sociopragmatic competence.
